George W. Bush yesterday laid a wreath at the crypt of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As far as I know, there is no truth to the rumor that the wreath spontaneously burst into flames, or that the rumbling sound reported by some observers was confirmed to be caused by the slain civil rights leader rolling over in his grave.
However, I'm quite sure that I myself heard Dr. King's voice yesterday.
"I say to you today," I heard him proclaim, "that if our nation can spend thirty-five billion dollars a year to fight an unjust war in Vietnam, and twenty billion dollars to put a man on the moon, it can spend billions of dollars to put God's children on their own two feet right here on earth. "
