A story published today in The Independent, citing a "high-level UK source," says both American and British intelligence services were "furious" that their reports "were distorted in the rush to war with Iraq."
"The case for invading...was based on selective use of intelligence, exaggeration, use of sources known to be discredited and outright fabrication," the story says.
The Independent becomes one more voice in a rising chorus. The Bush and Blair administrations must be held accountable for their deceitful, cynical manipulation of public opinion.
America in particular needs to wake up. We are well down the path to fascism. Complacent belief that "it can't happen here" is the biggest danger to our freedom. As Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
